AVB was formed in 1981 by Joe Gesmundo and Daryl Rynd. Daryl was a carpenter known for his focus on quality and his attention to detail. Joe was a developer devoted to creating first-rate developments integrated with nature. Together, the principals collaborated on the Kalamazoo area’s premier master-planned community – Woodbridge Hills. This visionary mixed-use community includes a retail center, medical and surgical buildings, office buildings, condominiums and upscale private residences and a private golf course.
Today AVB is a leading regional construction and development firm, offering expertise in both residential and commercial new construction, major remodeling projects, and real estate development.
AVB’s commercial construction portfolio includes the Brain and Spine Institute and the Stryker Center at Ascension Borgess Medical Center, the Stryker Corporation World Headquarters, Portage Northern High School, the AIA award winning Newell Rubbermaid International Design Center, the 12th Street Elementary School and the Western View on-campus student housing at Western Michigan University to name a few. Significant renovation projects include the Green Building of America Award-winning Educational Community Credit Union on 9th Street, Cole Nissan dealership in Kalamazoo, Borgess at Woodbridge Hills South, Keyser Insurance Agency, and the Ignertia Building brownfield redevelopment project in downtown Kalamazoo.
AVB’s development portfolio includes over a billion dollars’ worth of projects in Southwest Michigan. These projects include Woodbridge Hills, The Trade Centre, Oakland Hills, The Homestead, Barrington Shores, Greenspire, The Offices at Oakland Hills, Whisper Rock, Bridgeview at Angels Crossing, and Hidden Lake – communities that include hundreds of single family homes. AVB creates projects that create a sense of place that we stand behind, and deliver excellent value for both the short and long-term client.
