The Dearborn School Employee Healthcare Program’s Wellness Committee has at least 2 representatives from each of the Union groups in the district. We offer a variety of wellness initiatives throughout the school year. Our most successful dual program (Wellness and Community Outreach) is our Biggest Loser contest that begins mid-January and ends in April. The contestants pay $5 to join the contest and $1 per weigh-in. With the money collected, the teacher’s union buys books from First Book, an initiative with AFT and pass the books out to students at the Dearborn Homecoming in August at no cost to the children receiving books. It’s a win-win for employees staying healthy and the children in our community with books for their home.
